Description. Vespa mandarinia is the largest hornet species in the world ( Ono et al., 2003 ). Adult workers’ body length is from 25 to 40 mm and queens can exceed 45 mm ( Lee, 2010 ). Males superficially resemble females but lack a stinger. In females the stinger is 6 mm long.
